All are invited to our sixth SummerFest!
2026 Update
Noon to 7:30 pm at New Life Community Church! Join us for a day of fun for the whole family: inflatables, barrel train, face painting, bingo, puppet show, silent auction, food trucks, and more! Entry, parking and activities are free! Free ice cream and snacks, plus food trucks available (5-7 pm) for dinner purchases. All proceeds from bingo (50/50 payout), silent auction, and free-will donations benefit a non-profit organization supporting local families. This year we are raising funds for Kingdom Community Center.
The History of SummerFest
After the 2020 derecho swept through eastern Iowa and the Covid pandemic diminished, New Life Community Church wanted to do something fun for families in Marion and throughout the area. We began planning for a summer festival that would be provided free of charge. The inaugural event was held August 15, 2021. Local fan favorite Airwaves played an evening concert, while 100% of all donations were given to three area non-profits — Marion Cares, Families Helping Families and Safe Families for Children. About 600 people attended.
In 2022 more than 800 people turned out on a cloudy afternoon. We were able to donate $3,000 to Chains Interrupted. Full Circle provided evening music.
In 2023, SummerFest’s original date was rained out and rescheduled for August 13. Nearly 700 people arrived despite the delay and enjoyed guest magician Eric Michaels. Guests could choose to make financial donations to Safe Families for Children.
August 4, 2024 was the date for SummerFest IV. The heat index rose to more than 100 degrees, but it didn’t prevent 800 people from coming out and enjoying the afternoon. Magician David Cases entertained guests, while two bands performed in the evening — an all-star lineup of area musicians, and Prodigal Page. Our featured non-profit was Sleep in Heavenly Peace.
Our 2025 event was a beautiful afternoon attended by more than 850 people, benefitting the work of Marion Cares. Our fifth SummerFest saw many families returning from previous years, saying they saw the signs and Facebook messages and didn’t want to miss the fun!
